They have been married over 40 years, have 5 married children and 14 grandchildren. Doug has a background of 26 years in computer services and information technology management. Bernie’s background is a wife, mom, and homeschool teacher for their children. They have 40 plus years of church leadership experience. Doug has served as church head usher, board trustee, elder, and Christian school board member. Bernie has served as nursery coordinator, and Sunday school teacher. Together they have served as mission board chairs, youth group directors, and young adult leaders. They have led several mission trips to Belize, and in the US. Besides leading missions trips, they have also been to Nova Scotia, and Mexico doing service projects, as well as attended a Bible dedication in the Philippines. They were missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators for 12 years, serving in recruitment, people engagement, and partnership development coaching. They have personally experienced the beauty of church and missionary life but they have also experienced the sheer ugliness of it. They are excited to serve as your hosts at Whispering Cedars. Scripture is full of examples of men and women of God taking time to refresh spiritually, physically, and emotionally. Even Jesus needed times of getting away to pray and refresh His soul. We want to care for pastors, missionaries, and their spouses by providing a place for refreshing and a listening ear at no cost. “He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.” Proverbs 11:25b Our mission: Promoting spiritual health for Christian leaders by providing a safe place for a time of refreshing and a listening ear for those serving in Christian ministry. Our Vision is to provide a place where those serving in Christian ministry can find rest, relaxation, refreshment, Spiritual renewal, and respite in an environment that promotes stillness before the Lord to hear His gentle whisper. We offer a clean, quiet place to stay as well as being available to those with ministry hurts, experiencing ministry burnout, trauma, or just needing a neutral listening ear in a safe environment free of judgment and expectation. Everything we do is focused on serving, encouraging and inspiring Christian leaders. Pastors and missionaries need to put effort into keeping their relationship with God and their spouses strong. Our purpose is to make that easier. We encourage guests to remove themselves from the rush, relax, be still before God and rest in Him. Our Values We value ministry health and are committed to spiritually, emotionally, and relationally healthy pastors and missionaries. We value a foundation of prayer, believing we cannot exist and serve without the empowerment and blessing of God. We value the practice of stillness before God to listen to His gentle whisper. We value Sabbath days of rest to refresh one's soul. We value personal and professional integrity. Whispering Cedars Statement of Faith We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, Word of God and the authoritative guide for faith and conduct. We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.
